The newest of the email foodgroups

Bacn: email you want, but not right now. (As opposed to spam, which would be email you don’t want pretty much ever.)

As in:

… you name it! If you want to read it at any time, but not necessarily right now, it’s bacn.

Who opened the floodgates?

I opened my Gmail inbox tonight and I noticed a peculiar number by my spam folder:

10000+ spam

Why is this important?

Because it was closer to 7000 on Friday at this time.

This means, even with Google deleting any spam older than 30 days, I got approximately 3000 spam messages in two days.

Sheesh!

A fun statistic

Warning: I may not be quite understanding how Google defines ‘30 days,’ so this might not be quite right, but… it seems fairly straightforward to me.

Monday, 10-30-06, I had nearly 9700 spam messages in my spam folder in my Gmail account. Tuesday, Gmail showed only 8800 messages in that folder.

This means that, at some point in late September, I received approximately 900 spam messages in one day.

Sheesh.
