Dear WordPress, version 2.5 is a Goddamned mess

(Warning: this is a very angry rant. I am using a WordPress version that I do not like in order to write about how much I do not like this WordPress version, so you can imagine how thoughtful and meaningful this is. Skip if you do not like vitriol being spewed in the general direction of web software.)

I’m procrastinating, a little bit

Via litagemini:

1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random
The first article title on the page is the name of your band.

2. http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3
The last four words of the very last quote is the title of your album.

3. http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days/
The third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

4. Use your graphics program of choice to throw them together, and post the result as a comment in this post. Also, pass it along in your own journal because it’s more amusing that way.

Wikipedia random articles + imaginary bands = lol?

I no longer remember who I got this from, but it sure did make me laugh.

The concept: Go to Wikipedia, hit random article. That’s your band name.
Hit random article again. That’s your album name.
Hit random article 15 more times. That’s the album tracks.

Hilarity (?) ensues.

Band: Scouting in Jamaica
Album: Thomas II, Count of Piedmont

Tracklist:
1. Madison (Cycling)
2. Courts of Justice Act 1924
3. Maryland National Guard Overseas Service Ribbon
4. Osgoode Township, Ontario
5. Norman Callaway
6. Smart Mob
7. Casabianca (S 603)
8. Santa Eulalia de Gállego
9. Gotcha Journalism
10. Elisha Obed
11. XHSON-FM
12. Arizona Dream
13. Lunch Money (Game)
14. Thorius Magnipes

My search-fu has failed me

I think already know the answer, but: does GTA: San Andreas for the Xbox still support custom soundtracks when played on the 360?

No, playing music on the Dashboard and then booting San Andreas does not count for the purposes of this question. I’m talking use of the in-game custom music radio station.

A tower of gold couldn’t possibly have been a good idea

15 (Painfully) Unforgettable Cartoon Theme Songs. Starting with the truly atrocious and going to the obnoxiously catchy. Now I have the Ducktales themesong stuck in my head. Thanks, Cracked.

I’ll wager you can figure out what show this comment is about:

“Well, boys, we’re down to the wire here. The network wants the show tomorrow, and all we’re missing is the theme. Animation, this looks great. Top notch art. Music guys, you’ve done well. The beat is catchy, and I love the searing guitar riffs. Writers, what have you got for me? Wait, are you kidding? This is literally the word “Thundercats” written thirty-odd times in a row. How much are we paying you? Look, I don’t care if your wife just left you. Anyway, it’s too late now. Just record the damn thing.”

#11 on the list is, in fact, Thundercats. (HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO)

Out here in the field

Fun fact of the day: I have “Teenage Wasteland” stuck in my head, and I can’t get rid of it.

Also, I think my division at work may be the only 3 people who aren’t managers of something. That’s just weird. Seriously, at every company meeting, two or three people end up becoming managers of some sort, even if there’s no one under them - they’re still managers.

I kind of want to switch to the MySQL team (newly-formed!). I worry I don’t have enough DBA-type experience with it, though, and can’t figure out how to bring up to my boss that yes, sure, having the company pay for me to take MySQL administration courses and get a certification are, in fact, job-related. Well, at least, not without making it really obvious that I want to switch to the MySQL team.

Is there a term for having a crisis of faith, but job-related? I’m not so sure software development is what I want to do for a living anymore. I still like it, it’s just that I think I like it more on my own terms.

How utterly random

This picture showed up at the top of my last.fm profile. I have no idea what it is, or what it’s for. It’s a Flash animation, but it doesn’t actually do anything, and no part of it is a link of any kind. However, I liked it, so I felt compelled to steal it. Anyone got any ideas what it is?

the chaos has begun

85 Songs

Just for fun, I put my iPod on shuffle mode while I worked and noted every song it played. It’s an interesting cross-section of my musical tastes, I think.

Wanna be an Instrument Protagonist?

Now with Skeletor on drums!

What the heck is a Guitar Villain?

According to CVG, two trademarks filed by Guitar Hero publisher, Activision, have recently popped up on the US Patent and Trademark office website. The two names, Guitar Villain and Drum Villain, are linked to “computer game software” and “games sold with electronic guitars,” both apt descriptors of everyone’s favorite couch-jumping rock sim franchise.

I can’t possibly imagine what this would entail. Perhaps you have to bite the head off of a chicken or something with the new chicken peripheral?

Mix inquiry

Dear reader:

I am looking for suggestions for songs that would work well on a playlist for exercising. I can’t get physically motivated sometimes without the right music, and combing my library for music that’d work actually takes so long I get distracted. So I’m asking you: give me ideas. What songs do you/would you listen to while working out?

I blame the rocking for the lack of writing

In a valiant attempt to post something of relevance:

One does not simply ROCK into Mordor

This is because I’ve been playing way, way too much Guitar Hero II lately. Way. Unlocked every song on the first night we were playing it. Finally figured out that the only way to unlock additional basses is to beat things in co-op mode. Starting to work on playing hard mode so I can get used to breaking my wrist in order to get to that fifth fret button.

Sadly, I am going to have to put it down for the weekend… it’s my mom’s birthday, so back home with me. No Guitar Hero II, no Final Fantasy XI, no Final Fantasy XII… alas. Only my trusty DS to tide me over. (Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Justice For All, Magical Starsign, Touch Detective, Pokemon Ranger… I think I’ll be ok.)
